How Laura Works

Once we have connected and determined that we are going to work together I will send an email with a link for completing my practice documents online. I am pleased to offer a modern paperless system for scheduling and sending appointment reminders, communicating secure messages, and all billing matters.

I see clients in person four days per week in my Sebastopol office. It is an inviting space that lends itself well to relaxing and being present. For clients who live outside of the Sonoma County area I work remotely via a secure, encrypted platform. This platform is easy to use and allows you to connect to your session from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. (Currently I am offering sessions over Zoom only, in response to the COVID-19 epidemic.)

When we begin working together I will want to know about your life experience or history. It will be helpful for you to tell me about your family of origin, your identity (how you experience yourself), your partner, relationships with children, friends and work.

We will talk about your hobbies and what brings you pleasure, as well as your spiritual orientation. I will want to hear about your current symptoms. It may be helpful for me to speak to other healthcare providers you trust, and if so, we can discuss how we will go about it.

Once we have spent time discussing your history and your presenting concerns we will collaborate on a treatment plan. I consider the treatment plan to be a dynamic, fluid template that outlines what we hope to accomplish in therapy and how we will proceed.

The majority of my psychotherapy clients book sessions 2-4 times per month. My soul retrieval clients generally schedule one session per month until their concern is resolved.

My office is a safe and welcoming space for people of all backgrounds, cultures and identities. I welcome adults of all ages, backgrounds, identities and faiths to my practice. It is important for you to know that I am a feminist, and by this I mean I have and continue to do extensive exploration of how systems of race, class, and privilege impact our societal norms and how these biases create inequities. It is through this lens that I offer my services to the LGBTQIA communities; all presentations of gender; people of color, including those of racial, ethnic and cultural minority status, as well as immigrants and refugees; individuals in non-traditional relationships and families; people of all faiths, spiritual practices, and socio-economic backgrounds.

It is profoundly important to me that you leave your sessions feeling genuinely understood.
